What kind of computer should you buy? The first thing you have to ask yourself is whether you would rather do your computing on a laptop rather than a desktop computer. What’s the difference between the two? A desktop is the type of computer that must stay put in one place, like a room in your house or your office. A laptop on the other hand, is a portable version of the desktop, and as the name implies, is a computer you can use on your lap. A desktop, however, is definitely more powerful than a laptop in terms of capability, and is a lot cheaper, too.
A laptop normally has a lifespan of 3 to 5 years, and usually needs replacing once it crashes. On the other hand when a desktop crashes, it’s quite easy to replace the individual part or piece that got broken. So if your job or lifestyle doesn’t require you to do a lot of computing while traveling or moving around, it may be wise to stick to a desktop.
A wedding planner for example, will need to move around to meet up with her clients and suppliers—and would be better off with a small laptop computer(there are some out there that could actually fit in large purse or a small bag) than a desktop that will require her to stick to one place when she needs to compute.
There’s a lot of jargon like “processor type”, “RAM”, “hard drive space” that may confuse you as you go about buying a computer. Knowing these things is equally as important as knowing what you’re going to use the computer for. If you’re a film buff, you might want a monitor or LCD screen size that can let you enjoy watching movies on your computer.
If all you need in a computer is a word processor, you’d be better off with a computer with basic features. But if you’re a gamer, you will want a powerful processor and a machine capable of handling all those 3D effects.
